nightsinneon: Zhi Zheng, Hongchuan Zhao and Dongbai Song from China won Evolo magazine’s 2012 Skyscraper design competition. My favorite, however, is the runner-up (above) which crawls up the side of the Yunnan mountains. Designed by Yiteng Shen, Nanjue Wang, Ji Xia and Zihan Wang, it has the advantage of being neither outrageously science fictional nor horrible: consider the third place winner, a concept design for kilometer-high landfill silos.

oatmealandskyscrapers: So, I was thinking of a new skyscraper to present to everyone for the Skyscraper of the Month for December and was running low on both ideas and inspiration (and when you’re bored and don’t know what to do…go to stumbleupon :)).  Anyway, I came across yet another design featured on Evolo and Treehugger.com, and knew that it had to be shown!  So, I present to you (dun-dun-nun-daaahhhhhh): the earthscraper.  Apparently, some one or some design team believes that instead of growing up, buildings had the potential to grow down (as in way down underground).  If it didn’t mean me changing the name of my tumblr, I would really love this idea :P (no, but this is actually really incredible, and here is the link to the presentation page: http://www.treehugger.com/green-architecture/earthscrapers-going-down-instead-greener-way-build.html).  Enjoy this sky—I mean earthscraper of the month!
